How to Tell the Difference
One of the most common spiritual questions is deceptively simple:
Is this my intuition speaking, or is it fear?
The two can feel similar at first. Both may arise suddenly. Both can influence decisions. Both can create strong emotional reactions.
Yet they often carry very different qualities.
Fear tends to be loud, repetitive, and urgent. It frequently demands immediate action and generates countless hypothetical scenarios.
Intuition behaves differently.
It is often quiet.
It appears as a subtle knowing, a feeling that does not require extensive explanation. Intuition rarely argues its case. Instead, it presents information and allows space for reflection.
Fear says:
“What if everything goes wrong?”
Intuition says:
“Pay attention.”
Fear often contracts the mind. Intuition often expands awareness.
Developing discernment between the two requires practice. Journaling, reflection, meditation, and honest observation can help reveal patterns over time.
The goal is not to eliminate fear entirely. Fear has important functions and can provide valuable information.
The challenge is learning which voice deserves authority in a given moment.
Wisdom begins when we learn to recognize the difference.
